Sustainability

"I founded MILES to bring about a change in the way we think and act about urban transport. Sharing rides and vehicles while not having to sacrifice freedom or comfort is for me the fundamental idea for sustainable, future-oriented transport."
-Co-Founder & COO Alexander Eitner

We act independently and intrinsically motivated, without a parent company in the background. MILES’ decisions and actions always have a positive impact on social, environmental and economic sustainability. Only by incorporating all aspects of sustainability, we can fulfil our vision:

MAKE EVERY DRIVEN MILE A SHARED MILE!

OUR COMMITMENTS

  • feature-list-icon_leaf

By 2026, MILES will be operationally emission neutral.

  • feature-list-icon_-pkw-substitution

Each MILES vehicle replaces up to 11 private cars. One MILES car saves an average of 48.5 m2 of space through car substitution (source).

  • feature-list-icon_-statistics

MILES saves about 4000 tons of CO2 emissions per year and reduces the personal CO2 emissions of the users by about 8 percent on average (source).

CARSHARING AS PART OF THE SOLUTION

Less private cars mean...

= reduced emission of Co2

= less and safer traffic

= more attractive cityscape and more space

= less noise

SDGs - SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The United Nations has established 17 goals, each addressing a global challenge and representing sustainable development. MILES has adopted some of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its sustainability framework.

SDG 11: SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES

The way cities are planned, built, inhabited and traveled must be rethought. Our goal is to make our cities more livable, safer and healthier again. To achieve this, we are specifically addressing one of the biggest cornerstones in the climate crisis - traffic - and actively redesigning it. The use of car sharing supports multimodal transport behavior. This means that individual car traffic is sustainably reduced and a mobility environment is strengthened in which different forms of mobility such as public transport, bicycles, car sharing and ride hailing are available in a flexible coexistence. They form a comfortable, reliable and sustainable mobility ecosystem for cities and users.

SDG 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION & PRODUCTION

Resource-saving consumption and handling of materials is a matter of course for MILES. We handle a large part of our processes in-house, from customer service and software to our own repair shop. We are gradually electrifying our fleet.

SDG 13: CLIMATE ACTION

MILES actively contributes to the reduction of climate-damaging emissions by substituting private cars and driving forward a climate-friendly infrastructure. The vehicles in our fleet emit 30% less emissions than the average of newly registered vehicles in Germany and even 50% less than the entire German vehicle population.

SDG 5: GENDER EQUALITY

MILES is committed to equal treatment of all genders and equal opportunities. We use gender-neutral language in contracts, job postings and all external communications. Gender pay gaps do not exist at our company. As an employer and also as a B2C brand, we are a role model. For us, it is a matter of course that we proactively propagate and practice equal cooperation.

SDG 10: REDUCED INEQUALITIES

We are committed to a fair and inclusive coexistence. Anyone with an EU driving license can register and use MILES. This also gives lower-income households access to a car or van when they need it.

With MILES Charity, donations are continuously made to associations and organizations that support equal rights, equality and social projects.
